Earl's 1100 Mile Odessey

Earl & Tom Hauser Ride 1100 miles

15 Days on the Road, Camping and  Touring 5 States

What a vacation!!  We started our odyssey from Monticello, FL on Sunday June 15.  We averaged about 75 miles a day, traveling through Georgia, into Alabama, north to get past Atlanta, then wending east through Georgia again, into Tennessee and finally down into North Carolina, to Rocky Mount were we caught an Amtrak train to Sebring FL. At Sebring we climbed back on our bicycles and headed for Punta Gorda and N. Fort Myers for the last leg of the trip.

On this trip we used [http://www.warmshowers.org] www.warmshowers.org to find fellow riders who would allow us to stay with them overnight.  We really enjoyed the hospitality, and chance to shower and enjoy a warm meal. If you would like to meet touring riders click on their web site and join.  I have had 4 different couples from around the world visit, and have really enjoyed the experience.

If you would like more information on our ride, stop by the Port Charlotte Store or email me at earl@acmebicycleshop.com

Switch it on, and "Twist and Go" with Eco Friendly transportation You can travel 25 to 30 mile at up to 20 miles per hour on one of our Electric Bicycles or Adult Trikes, not work and harder than you want and NEVER STOP AT A GAS STATION!

IZIP and Currie Technologies have teamed with Acme Bicycle to bring inexpensive electric transportation to SW Florida.  Acme in now the sole distributor of the extensive IZIP line of electrics.  IZIP offers both PAS (Pedal Assist System) and TAG (Twist and Go) systems on their bicycles. You never have to pedal harder than you want, or you can choose "Twist and Go" and not pedal at all.  Just think, you could run most of your errands, to shop, to the post office, to appointments, for less than 10 cents a day. Here in sunny Florida the weather cooperates all year, and even when it is hot, you have the joy of the breeze generated by your movement, and you dont't have to pedal unless you want the exercise.

Stop in to Acme to see the models we are now stocking, and if we don't have one to meet your needs, IZIP offers many more models to meet any need. [www.izipusa.com/] Click to see the complete line of IZIP bicycles available from Acme Some models have the new NiMh (Nickle Metal Hydride) batteries that charge fast, last a long time and are hidden inside the frame for a sleek look.

Helmets, They Are For Everyone!

I fell off my bike... My helmet was cracked and my head had a good bump but if it were not for the helmet my head would have cracked and almost everyone agrees that I would be DEAD or in really bad shape. And I was "only" riding near my home.

Casual, slow, fun, easy and no spandex bicycle shorts!

As the name implies, this is a bicycle tour for those who prefer not to don spandex sports wear, ride a high-tech bicycle, or ride long distances fast. This tour June 7, which launches Charlotte County and Punta Gorda Bike Week, is for those who prefer to ride shorter distances at a more leisurely pace and "smell the roses" along the way.

Karen's 2nd Annual All Ladies Cross Florida Ride April 19, 2008

After several Sunday's of training, 11 ladies from the area will head off to St. Mark's just south of Tallahassee to begin a bicycle tour of Florida's South Coast.
The gals have been riding on Sundays and last Sunday they challenged their longest training ride by riding to Ft Myers for lunch at the Ford/Edison Museum.  After lunch they returned logging just over 50 miles.  Every one made the trip with no flat tires, and no problems other than some sore muscles.

On April 19, the gals will load their bicycles and drive north to the trailhead of St Marks Trail.  In 6 days and about 400 miles later they should pull into Punta Gorda.

Any woman is eligible to go on the annual ride, you only need a road bicycle and the desire to spend a week with other women riding your bicycle.  For more information call Karen at 258-3400
